Topping up your prepaid mobile phone account

For uninterrupted access to your prepaid mobile phone service and features, it is important to keep your account active. If the amount owing on your account is $0 for 120 days or more, your service will be disconnected. A new activation will be required and your phone number will need to be changed.

Our various methods of topping up your prepaid account are convenient for even the busiest of people.

Prepaid Cards

Prepaid cards can be bought from one NorthernTel's authorized dealers. To top-up your airtime, follow the steps indicated on the prepaid cards. If you top-up your account before your funds run out, you'll be able to carry over your unused minutes.

Credit card

You can add funds to your prepaid phone account with your Visa, Mastercard or American Express credit card. Call #321 from your mobile phone or 1 888 537-9999 from a home phone for free and follow the instructions provided on the phone.

Allowance Program

You no longer have to worry about any unused balance expiring with the Allowance Program. The program automatically tops up your account by $15, $25 or $50 on a designated day every month. The funds are deducted directly from your bank account or credit card.

To register for the Allowance Program, download the online form (PDF), fill it out and fax it back to the number on the form.

Automatic Allowance Program

The Automatic Allowance Program tops up your account ($15, $25 or $50) on a designated day each month and if your funds drop to $5 before the end of each month. Unused allowance funds are carried over to the next month.

The funds will be deducted from your bank account or credit card every month, so you don’t have to worry about losing unused balances.

To register for the Automatic Allowance Program, download the online form (PDF), fill it out and fax it back to the number on the form.

Note: There is a maximum of 4 automatic allowances per month.

Bonus:  Get an additional 15% talk time when you choose the Allowance top up program. Unused bonus funds expire after 30 days.

Here's how it works: If you are on the $15 Allowance program, you qualify for a bonus of $2.25. The bonus is valid for 30 days. If you have unused bonus funds, they will not carry forward. However, unused funds from your Allowance balance will automatically carry forward.

Automatic Top Up

The Automatic Top Up Program tops up your prepaid phone account by $15, $25 or $50 whenever your balance drops below $5 or your funds expire.

To register for the Automatic Top Up, call #321 from your mobile phone or 1 888 537-9999 from a home phone for free, or download the online form (PDF), fill it out and fax it back to the number on the form.

Note: If your balance is below $0, your credit card or bank account will be charged the amount required to bring it to $0 as well as the amount required to bring your account balance to your registered amount. Taxes are extra. Allow up to 48 hours for funds to be added to your account.

Express Top Up

The Express Top Up Program lets you register your credit card or bank account and add funds to your prepaid phone account whenever you need to. Once you’re registered, simply dial #369 from your mobile phone and enter the PIN provided at registration to add funds to your account.

Automated Teller Machine

At participating CIBC Bank Machines in Quebec and Ontario, simply insert any bank debit card and follow on-screen instructions. Because this service is offered in collaboration with Bell Mobility, choose “Bell Mobility” when the system requests the name of your service provider.

Your 12-digit prepaid service code will be printed on the receipt. Don’t lose your receipt! You will need this code when you dial #321 on your mobile phone to add funds to your account.
